My name is Lauren Eubank and I am currently enrolled in the AP Art class at Methacton High School. I have always been a hands on learner and have benefited greatly from having an art program like this one. Other than art, I have played on the schools soccer team the past four years and I am going to continue playing at Shippensburg University while studying Exercise Science. I have a dog named Puppy, a sister named Jackie, and two amazing and supportive parents named Angela and David. I never really expected to involve myself in art like the way I did this year. Most people don't even know that we have an Ap Art class at this school. Art gives me the opportunity to express myself and also gives me a sense of freedom. When I was younger, I was never able to express myself because I couldn't talk. I had Low Muscle Tone in my face, I was unable to form words until I was 4 years old. “DAS is a speech disorder that interferes with a child's ability to correctly pronounce sounds, syllables and words.” As a child, I was told that I was never going to be able to speak my whole life. Throughout the next couple years, it became an uphill battle for my parents and I to find out why I couldn't speak. When i needed to communicate, I used sign language. This pushed me to express myself in other ways. I drew lots of pictures and always worked with modeling clay and mud. I soon came to realize that drawing wasn't my strong suit, but I sculpted little figures out of wax and modeling clay. This is what started me on my path to take every ceramics class offered at Methacton in these last four years. Art should be something that everyone interprets differently from their own perspective. I hope my work can speak to you and give you the message that I am trying to portray.
